Haggin sent McCune to Peru to invest in Copper mines for him. Haggin was one of the richest men in America.
"When I sent cablegrams I generally omitted the signature. Ordinarily, I don't think I signed them, but if I had signed them, I would have signed them 'Haggin.' There was reason for omitting. In the first place, it cost about $1.75 a word, and, therefore, I usually omitted them because I wanted to save that $1.75."
